I've been riding a hybrid for several years and want to buy a road bike. I could do the legwork and test-ride several, but that's hard to do in Minneapolis in the middle of the winter. There is also a dearth of comparison reviews on the net.

I ride recreationally and am a bit overweight, but I'm hoping the right bike will help me correct some of that. The past few years I've put roughly 2000 miles on my bike each year.

So I open it up to this group ... what is the best road bike in the $1200-1500 range?

In addition to Felt, I would check out Giant. They offer a nice range of quality aluminum road bikes with good component groups.

Run, don't walk to get this deal.

Performance Bike is clearing out some left over Scattante "all Ultegra" 100% Carbon Fiber Bikes.

You can now get their double for $1279 plus about $30 freight, MINUS an additonal 10% if you use coupon code #6002321. The triple is around $50 more.

I own one and its the envy of my friends in the Boca Bike Club - at least $1K less than the nearest name brand.

ps. Scattante used to be the "house brand" for Supergo.

Performance's web site is www.perfromancebike.com

A 2nd great deal, in a "mostly" ultegra bike SUPERLIGHT bike is the Motobecane FSA SLK Carbon/Alum. bike with Rithceey WCA/AC420 wheels for $1300. That bike only weighs 15 pounds!!!

You can get that from Bikes Direct including free freight - www.BikesDirect.com

The wheels on that baby retail for almost $800 list ($400 street price).
