Help! Foot Cramps

Everytime I ride, w/in 5min, the outsides of my feet cramp. I've seen a podiatrist, had a professional fit, good shoes and pedals. Yet, I still cramp. Any ideas? It's so painful that after a race, i'll be sore for about 5 days.

Friend, I feel your pain. I myself am an overpronator and have had to get special shoes that correct my foot position. In your case, I believe you are the opposite- an oversupinator. Your feet tend to roll outward, even in shoes- you put more pressure on the 5th metatarsal(the pinkie side) than on the 1st(the big toe). It doesn't matter what type of shoe you buy, if it's a regular shoe I don't think that will solve your problem. For over supination you need a highly cushioned and flexible running shoe to make up for the lack of shock absorption at your foot.Orthotics and insoles come in many types and prices. Some are pre-molded and can be bought off the shelf. These are ok for the majority of problem feet. However some cases may require specially casted orthotics from a relevant sports injury therapist or podiatrist. Try these inserts in your regular cycling shoes and see if they help: ORTHO-DYNAMICS: Custom Foot Orthotics, Diabetic Footwear and Insoles. Wishing you all the best-Mikaela.
